ONLY YOU by Alison Moyet

One of my colleagues has a real passion for music from the 1980s and while watching the YouTube video he had chosen I came across this song performed at the Spring/Summer 2016 Womenswear show from Burberry. Now I’m not a great advocate of (nor indeed wearer of) high fashion but what struck me was the theatricality of this performance, with a 32 piece orchestra, set beautifully in their Hyde Park venue. I also really like the orchestration of this song by Joe Duddel.

Alison Moyet, after an eight-year gap in the 1990s, began recording again in 2002 and her full performance at Burberry, in 2015, was later released as an EP. ‘Only You’, written by Vince Clarke of Depeche Mode, was the debut hit for her 80s synth-pop band Yazoo and reached number 2 in the UK singles chart.

Burberry has for some years used live music at its shows and has a dedicated Acoustic section on its website featuring original videos from a selection of up-and-coming British singers.

And if the music isn’t to your taste you can always play spot the celeb.
