Despite being able to have live theatre again last autumn – albeit with an audience of 40 and then 20 – we thought that we would commission six of our writer colleagues, whose work you may already know a little, to write a series of sketches that will inspire your creative and dramatic curiosities. We hope that once we are out of this current hiatus, we will be able to present them as a live performance on our Benjamin Meaker Stage at Jersey Arts Centre. Enjoy these scenes over the next few weeks!

JACQUELINE MÉZEC is a poet and has twice been a runner up in the Mslexia Poetry Competition. Her commissions include poems for Holocaust Memorial Day in Jersey and for the unveiling of the Guillemont First World War Memorial at the Somme, France. Her play ‘End Notes’ was a winner of the Spearpoint New Plays Competition.

SIMON MACDONALD is a writer, performer and maker of theatre. He has taken part in a number of Plays Rough events in all these guises and also as compere. Last year, he staged two of his own shows at Jersey Arts Centre. The first being ‘Going Underground’, vignettes from the London Tube network in the 1980s based on the photographs of Bob Mazzer; followed by ‘In Receipt’, a one-man show which imagined the stories behind a collection of found receipts. His radio series adaptation of Paul Bisson’s detective novel ‘Marigold Dark’ was also commissioned and produced by ArtHouse Jersey in 2020. Simon is currently working on a new play, ‘Sometime, Somewhere’ ahead of a Jersey Arts Centre residency later this year.
