‘Pride’, written by Stephen Beresford, is based on a true story from the 1980’s Miners Strike. In an age of deep conservatism miners and their families in Wales’s Dulais Valley, formed an unusual alliance with the London fundraising group Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who formed a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership. A feel-good movie par excellence with a stellar cast including Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott, Dominic West and Imelda Staunton. It won Beresford a deserved Bafta.
