My spare time is often spent doing some form of gardening – tending container plants on my patio, volunteering at the Jersey Zoo’s organic farm but mostly cultivating fruit and veg at my allotment which is my main passion these days.

It can be hard work and fraught with all sorts of unexpected failures for numerous reasons but there are few things more satisfying than planning what, how and where to grow seeds and plants and watching them develop, nurturing them into produce for eating… even if it’s sometimes misshapen or nibbled!

There’s a long list of benefits to self, environment and nature and although you may not have the time, energy or desire for an allotment, there’s a sense of satisfaction to be had from growing a pot of your favourite herb.
